Judge stays Rambus Hynix case

Waiting for the FTC
Wed Aug 23 2006, 09:33
A JUDGE presiding over a case between Hynix and Rambus stayed the case until February 2nd 2007 or until the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issues a final order.

If the FTC decides to impose royalty rates for Rambus to license SDRAM and DDR SDRAM, the case will be altered. The judge has also given Hynix 90 days to see if the recent FTC ruling against Rambus affects its case.

Hynix has agreed to put money with the court to cover damages already awarded.

Rambus lawyer Robert Kramer said that the FTC decision could mean the Hynix case and other cases against memory makers could be resolved.

Hynix sued saying that DDR and SDRAM products it was making and selling weren't covered by Rambus patents. But a jury found Rambus patents were infringed. µ
