McCain invented the Blackberry

Bizarre technology claims of our time
Wed Sep 17 2008, 10:37

DESPERATE TO PROVE that his Luddite boss John McCain knows a thing or two about technology, one of his policy advisers has told hacks that the presidential hopeful helped create Rim's Blackberry.

McCain policy adviser, Douglas Holtz-Eakin waved his Blackberry personal digital assistant in front of hacks and claimed that they were, "looking at the miracle that John McCain helped create."

This must have been news to McCain as he has acknowledged that he doesn't know how to use a computer and can't send e-mail which we thought would have been handy if you were going to create a bit of technology like the Blackberry.

RIM has not confirmed whether or not McCain was a member of its design team.

Holtz-Eakin, former director of the Congressional Budget Office, must have known all this but claimed his boss was great because his leadership of the Senate Commerce Committee put him at the intersection of a number of economic interests, including the telecommunications industry.

By that logic McCain also invented poker, roulette and blackjack because he was the main author of the 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act. µ

That's nothing...

I was Time's(or maybe it was People magazine) person of the year a while back. Remember when they put that lousy silver mirror on the front of the magazine? And if I were in the military, I would've been Person of the Year two years in a row.

Overblown...

Ok. So someone working for McCain said that he "helped" create the Blackberry. How is that worse than Al Gore _himself_ claiming that he invented the Internet? It would seem to me that the latter is from the horses mouth, so to say?

The reality is that statements are taken out of context by those trying to make political points. It's laughable that some try to make this an issue, just as it was laughable when it came to Al Gore.

to that republican

"John McCain has difficulty lifting his arms because of his injuries. This makes using a keyboard a problem."

The guy could move a pen, surely it's not that much harder to move a track ball.

Whatever it is, it can't be harder for him to use a computer than it was for Stephen Hawkins?

Odd, I never have to raise my arms to type...

"Someone with a brain" it seems you also lack experience with computers, etc. Unless this is a conservative thing, I have never had to raise my arms to type. Weird...

If Mr. McCain injuries are so bad so as to prevent him use of a keyboard, then how come I see him waving without problems, holding mikes, talking in rallies smiling for hours. What a trooper...

Come one, not everything can be excused because the poor guy was a POW.

It is not surprising to see republicans using the POW excuse to guilt people into overlooking his obvious weak points.

BTW, I like the guy, imagine that.

To all the brainwashed regressives

John McCain has difficulty lifting his arms because of his injuries sustained as a PoW. This entitles him to lead the US military on expeditions into Iran and North Korea, to whose populace he still holds a grudge. Did I mention he was a PoW?

To all who think that doesn't make sense, just remember how Bush Jr. finished the job Bush Sr. couldn't! Revenge is American!

Vote McCain/Palin because rape victims don't need abortions! They need abstinance education! Anyone who says otherwise is not American!

blackberry NOT Blackberry

Come On ! Give McCain Some Credit Here !

You see, as it turns out... the McCain camp were actually referring to John's contribution to the development of the 'blackberry' ... not the 'Blackberry'.

Yup, seems Mr. McCain played a hand in the development of the time honored favorite fruit. As it turns out John was an early proponent for genetically modified fruit and while working alongside a band of Flemish monks visiting Scotland in the early 13th century John accidentally spliced a Mungleberry fruit stem into a Benninberry stem (related to modern Alderberry).

Low and behold - a star was born - the 'blackberry' and John was celebrated for centuries around the abbey. Indeed - the breakfast gruel was never the same !

Hurray for the inventor of the 'blackberry' -our own John McCain.

Those darn liberals just need to brush up on their history a little bit.

brainwashed liberals ha

@someone with a brain (if there ever was a great pun, that is it)

-this ridiculous spin was republican in the making. Stupidity should be met by sarcasm at the very least. This had more spin to it than a drunken twister game.

-"...McCain as he has acknowledged that he doesn't know how to use a computer and can't send e-mail." has nothing to do with the fact that he can barely use his arms. He could know how to without having to use it on a regular basis. Furthermore eye movement detectors allows people with paralysis to use computers.

RIM is indeed a Canadian company

Think About It

It has become fashionable to dismiss John McCain as a technological numbskull because he does not use a computer. While I, too, wish that he would learn this very useful skill, it is really silly to dismiss his qualifications for President on that basis.

I wonder just how many of these smug, dismissive types who are making a big deal out of this know how to pilot an A4 Skyhawk.

Obviously the technological savvy is there - it just hasn't been applied to our favorite area of interest!

McCain Campaign Lies-- Again

MCain voted against the Telecommunications Act of 1996 and McCain voted against the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act (OBRA ‘93) that "authorized the spectrum auctions that created the competitive wireless market" which gave rise to products such as the Blackberry.
More lies from the McCain campaign...

on top of that...

There's also this additional fact that makes this claim even more stupid,

RIM is a Canadian company...

To all the brainwashed liberals

John McCain has difficulty lifting his arms because of his injuries. This makes using a keyboard a problem. I am not surprised that the democrats to stoop so low with all the vile rhetoric. The journalists here are included in that group.

Opportune Moments

I'm sure the talking heads at RIM are staying their response until the election is decided.

"You know, if McCain wins this thing we can start telling our customers we have employees deep inside the Whitehouse working hand-in-hand on government projects."

"And, if he doesn't win, we'll have Johnson do a cut and paste of the Gore-Internet turkey shoot. Do you still have that report? (Johnson holds up flash drive)"

Maybe...

..McCain (oven chips) had something to do with the SMS interconnect fiasco that is the US mobile telecoms network, which prevented SMS taking off in the US in the same way it has boomed in Europe.
For those that really had to send a text based message on the move, the only option was email... Cue the mobile email machine... Blackberry.

Authorities in several countries raided Megaupload recently, shut down all of its services, seized hundreds of servers and arrested several of its executives on criminal charges.

Do you think the move was justified?
