CHIPZILLA RELEASED released its two new energy-efficient 50-watt quad core server processors today.

Intel spinners claim that the Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor L5320 and L5310 chips will mean a 60 percent decrease in power over its previous efforts.

The chips will work at 1.86GHz and 1.60Ghz and have eight megabytes of on die cache for faster memory data communication. They will run on dedicated 1066 MHz front side buses.

The L5320 is priced at US$519 and the L5310 at US$455 if you buy about 1000 of them.

The processors are supposed to work nicely with Intel's Bensley server platform and are drop-in compatible with the existing Dual-Core and Quad-Core Intel Xeon processor families.

Acer, Dell, Digital Henge, Fujitsu Siemens, HP, HCL, IBM, Lenovo, Rackable Systems, Samsung, Verari, and Wipro are planning to release servers in the next couple of months based around the new chips. µ
