CRIMINALS MAY be forced to eat their satellite navigation (sat nav) devices to prevent incriminating data ending up in police hands.
According to experts, most satnav units retain hundreds of records relating to previous journeys. This data cannot only place criminals at the scene of the crime, but it can also reveal where they've hidden the stash and from where they picked up their partners in crime.
Better still, such data could be used in conjunction with evidence from their mobile phones, such as CellID, to disprove a crooks denials that they have ever been near the crime scene.
A data specialist with the UK's Metropolitan Police, Mark Stokes, told the Torygraph that officers now routinely seize satnav devices when arresting suspects.
Of course, privacy campaigners are having kittens over this development as the practice could potentially be extended to those who have only committed minor traffic offences.
It is a bit worrying should that happen, given that the police are notoriously rubbish at returning suspects' PCs, let alone their satnav devices.
INQ readers may recall the case of the French fugitive, Alfred Sirven, who ate his handset's SIM card in order to protect the identities of those associates who'd been hiding him. µ

Any satnav device has the option to turn keeping logs off, so as long as the 'criminal' thinks of doing that he's safe again.
Incidentally, since sat nav devices are removable and since you HAVE to remove them from the car else they are stolen it would be very hard to link the data to the car or person with certainty, so as long as the suspect doesn't confess and has a half-decent lawyer he's also OK.
Another idea is to lend the thing to your mom when you are on a caper and then have the cops 'prove' you weren't involved because you were at the hairdresser at the time:)
One last remark: often the logs can/are being kept on a SD card and you can swap/edit/wipe them, also giving the opportunity to fool the cops or make their evidence fail in court by having impossible logs.
Let's hope they don't remember to switch off their mobile phones as the operator will have a record of which local masts it communicated with as well.

Given the amount of thought you've obviously put into this matter, if I were you I'd be wary of any knocking (pounding ?) at the door in the wee hours of the day.
Or any noise of helicopter rotors at any time of day or night.
But I'm just saying, that's all.
I think by now anybody that watches either movies or TV or the news knows about cellphones and their wonderful features.
Oh and pascal, you don't need to be guilty or even suspicious anymore to have them bother you, or in fact have you put in jail without trial in places like britain and other members of the EU andsoforth.
In the U.S its suppose to be innocent untill proven guilty but I assure you its guilty untill proven innocent....and people who have been in prison for over 10 years, and now with DNA testing many are proven to be innocent of the crime they are jailed on....but prosacutors will not release them.........the justice system is so screwed up in this world......public defenders in this country are known as public pretenders.......they keep making stupid laws that have no victums so they can place more people in prisons...in the U.S many prison's are now run by large corperations and are making huge profits...they get free labor or cheap labor in many places.....Florida's #1 source of money is the prison system and drugs are #2 with tourism and agriculter fighting for #3 in the market.
Its almost like Hitler is running the justice system.

Here is a good one California makes it legal to use pot for medical uses, but the federal government says no...so you wont be arrested by the state for having or amoking pot...but you can be arrested and many have been by the feds for smoking pot...another victumless crime...the world is going down the tubes fast..please someone just hit the buttons and launch them damn fire-works and lets get this crap over and start from scratch.....those in charge for the last 2000 years have really done a bad job........
