ATI R520 Fudo goes AGP

Pre ceBIT stuff
Wednesday, 9 March 2005, 12:16
THROUGH THE WONDERS of Airport Wireless LAN powered with Centrino marchitecture we learned that the next generation ATI part R520 chip codenamed Fudo will get an AGP version as well.

We don't know many details about it yet, but we are almost certain that ATI plans to bridge the R520 chip with its Rialto bridge chip. It did it before with R480, R430 and RV410 as it just announced those chips bridged back to AGP using Rialto bridge.

The AGP lovers will get the chance to use their existing motherboards and won't have to migrate to PCI Express just for the R520. That's nothing more than good news for all of you that just like AGP platforms.

The R520 AGP will have the same specs as the PCIe card. We believe that CeBIT might bring some more details about the R520 cards. PCIe cards are codenamed Raptor while AGP card might come under the other code name.

We heard that there are more chips based on R5x0 marchitecture that might mean that ATI will introduce Shader model 3.0 for all. Stay tuned for our reporting from Cebit. µ
