Eve Online shakes up support

Volunteers fed up, fans seem a tad alienated
Thu Aug 23 2007, 20:27
ICELANDIC BASED software company CCP has announced a massive shake-up of its volunteer assistance program for popular Science Fiction based MMORPG, Eve Online.

Two of the five branches of player organisation the Interstellar Services Department (ISD), responsible for forum moderation and plot events, are to be disbanded.

Forum moderation will be taken over by CCP employees but there is no formal indication yet as to whether CCP will continue to offer any official supported role-playing events within the game.

We have contacted CCP but so far we have not had a reply.

The first that the affected members of ISD knew of the changes was when an email hit their inboxes on Tuesday afternoon thanking them for their work and letting them know that their services were no longer required.

Eve's player base has expressed anger on the net, but ironically in CCP's official forums even rational and reasoned expressions of concern seem to be being moderated.

Fans are left asking themselves how CCP's tiny community relations team will be able to manage a forum so big it contains over half a million distinct topic threads, and whether recent events will constitute a death-blow for the strong history of story based gaming within Eve.

Forum members wonder if Eve has lost a large part of its plot and alienated many of its most devoted fans. µ
