HD-DVD movies gain value

Can you beelieve it?
Wednesday, 12 March 2008, 10:32

PUNTERS are making a beeline to eBay where HD-DVD movies are being auctioned at over inflated prices because they are 'collectors items'.

The fairly dire Bee Movie was recently auctioned for $400 and while it is possible to argue that the disks are going to be collector's items, particularly when punters want something to play on their soon-to-be-collectable HD-DVD machines, there are still a fair number of reasonably priced flicks out there.

Anyone actually paying money for Jerry Seinfeld's Bee Movie has to question their sanity at the best of times, but paying ten times the cover price would suggest that they've lost the plot completely. ยต

Hillarious..

Shows how dumb HD DVD owners really are.

That $400 could have got him/her a very swish stanalone Blu-ray player or PS3.....

Was never officially released

I'm pretty sure Bee Movie was pulled just before the release date and has never actually been officially released, so if it's being sold on ebay it's either a scam or a rare copy that might have been manufactured before they decided not to release it. A similar thing happened with Blades of Glory on Blu-ray when Paramount pulled it shortly before release and recalled all the shipped copies. Some copies nonetheless found their way to ebay at inflated prices.

Bee Movie - dire?

I thought Bee Movie was quite a good film actually.

Wouldn't pay $400 for it though.

Actually

I was strolling past the local cd/dvd etc. emporium and they were selling out all HD-DVD discs cheap as chips, or, 79.90 NOK to be precise. A week before HD-DVD died they cost between 299.90 and 349.90 NOK. Just move the comma one right to get pounds. Considering they had the entire Harry Potter collection I almost felt like buying an HD-DVD/Blu-Ray ROM. Though I did borrow some kit and tried to play back some of this stuff on the PC and I tell you it was less than hassle-free. Maybe later, when PowerDVD has sorted its bugs out.
