Israeli graffiti pics cause storm

Shell shock
Tue Jul 25 2006, 08:36
PICTURES WHICH purportedly show Israeli children writing messages on shells subsequently used by Israeli artillery have caused a major storm on online sites such as Flickr and the Guardian web.

The photos were originally taken by professional photographers from AFP, Associated Press, and Haaretz. They then made their way onto popular photo sites and from there have made their way into numerous personal blogs.

The pictures show the children writing graffiti such as "from Israel, with love".

One posting on the Guardian web site argued that, "The militarisation of children is always a crime." The Israeli authorities haven't effectively confirmed or denied the authenticity of the photos.

It does illustrate how rapidly the Internet can influence people's views on the conflict. µ
