Chinese boffins slam wireless mobile technology

Cracked in five minutes
Thu Sep 14 2006, 07:38
A GROUP of Chinese boffins have slammed Intel's Centrino mobile technology, claiming that computers equipped with the technology can be cracked within five minutes.

A a wireless local area network (WLAN) security technology seminar heard more than 20 scientists from Chinese universities, government research institutions and China Mobile lay into wireless security issues.

One demonstration showed that computers equipped with the technology could be penetrated within five minutes. It allowed hackers to link to the encoded WLAN, where they could revise or delete documents.

Of course this ringing attack by the Chinese intelligentsia has nothing to do with the fact that China has an on going battle with the rest of the world over wireless standards.

Intel in particular has been at loggerheads with China, which wants the world+dog to use its standards.
