Tom Pabst's lens found on Van Smith Rambus chip

Always there, with benefit of hindsight

THE CONTACT LENS belonging to Herr Doktor Tom Pabst that went missing at CeBIT last year was found in an egg cup in Van Smith's house on Sunday, the New Rogister can report.

(c) Javier Rojas 2002But current acrimony between the two former associates means that Doktor Pabst may have to do his press ups without the benefit of hindsight.

Pabst, was caught by by Tec Channel snapperazzi Nico Ernst last year, searching high and low for the contact lens during last year's CeBIT but was unable to find it, however hard he looked.

How the lens managed to find itself in Van's eggcup, however, is a matter for fierce debate on bulletin boards worldwide.

Some suggest that the contact lens fell off Pabst's finger and found itself onto memory on an Intel motherboard.

The motherboard was then shipped from Hannover to Van Smith's labs in the US, with the lens miraculously managing to stay moist.

When Van closely inspected the RIMMs, he noticed a "defect" on the Rambus chip, and carefully placed it in the nearest receptacle to hand, an egg cup in his kitchen.

But now the two are caught in a tug-of-war over articles written for Tom's Hardware Guide, it may be that the lens may never find its rightful place, back in the Doktor's eye. ยต
