Mozilla's Geode will keep tabs on you

Where am I?
Tue Oct 07 2008, 13:21

MOZILLA will today launch Geode - a geotagging project which will control your physical location in order to enhance your browsing experience.

This plugin will be launched into Mozilla Labs and apparently comprehends location - making room for personalised and localised browsing content.

An example of how Geode will work is your typical nightmare scenario, you're looking for a hairdresser urgently as your child has got chewing gum stuck in their hair - but you're out of town and don't know the area.

Geode helps by loading up your favourite review site and quickly finds suggestions of hairdressers you might use in the circumference of a couple of streets - it will also give you directions to get there.

More details are scheduled to be released later on today - such as how Firefox will determine a location using Mozilla which has no GPS provisions.

We'll just have to wait for these gems of information, but worry not - as soon as we know, you will too. µ
