Microsoft to release Win64 XP beta in weird Intel coincidence

Now it works with iAMD64. Hasard?
Sun Aug 01 2004, 19:50
TOMORROW or maybe the day after is still the date Intel's Lindenhurst with added Nocona 800MHz front side bus and EM64T makes its appearance and by the spookiest of coincidences, Microsoft will also release a beta of its Windows 64XP software that will support both Intel Xeons and Opterons, tomorrow, says news.com.

The iAMD64 software is ready.

Hasard?

According to news.com, the fresh and shiny "technology exchange programme" will let people buy Xeon 64-32s or Opteron 64-32s now, knowing that tomorrow, or rather next year, the beta will become the real thing.

The weird thing about the news.com story, which you can find here, is that it says earlier versions of WinXP in beta only supported AMD.

This flies right in the face of what Dr Craig Barrett said at the Intel Developer Forum in February, doesn't it? ยต
