THE GOVERNMENT of South Korea sent Intel a note last week asking to it respond to anti-trust violations, it has emerged.

In a statement, the South Korean Fair Trade Commission said it was investigating, "whether Intel violated the Korean Fair Trade and Monopoly Regulation Act and whether there would be any sanctions on Intel".

The KFC has been looking into the chip maker's business practices for nearly two years but hasn't revealed details of its investigations.

Intel spokesman Chuck Mulloy said the company will respond to the commission's findings.

"We hope to show to the commission's satisfaction the microprocessor market is functioning normally and Intel conducts its business lawfully and that our business practices are pro-competitive and beneficial to consumers," he said. µ
