Orange broadband outage outed

LLU customers hit by snafu
Tue Oct 17 2006, 13:43
THE BROADBAND SERVICE run by mobile firm Orange is experiencing a major outage, reports the BBC.

A spokesperson for the company said the fault on the service was caused by a "network equipment failure". Orange said they were working to fix the problem but there is currently no information on when a normal service may resume.

The company said the problem only affected customers within their Local Loop Unbundled (LLU) exchanges, and had occurred at 16:00 yesterday.

The company said engineers working over night restored connections to 20% of affected customers overnight.

"We are working to restore normal service to all customers as quickly as possible," said an Orange spokesperson. "We apologise to those customers affected."

Orange internet was originally known as Wanadoo, and a rebranding of the two sister company's meant that a second renaming of the service occurred, after the original rebranding of Freeserve to Wanadoo. µ
