Kasperksy and Rising Tech start to wage war

China on Russia's mind
Mon Jul 09 2007, 08:17
KASPERSKY LABS and Chinese AV outfit Rising Tech are headed to a Chinese court in a row over who is the wickedest security outfit.

Kaspersky said it sued Rising Tech for anticompetitive business practices. Kaspersky said that Rising Tech had used unfair competitive practices that tarnished its credibility and reputation.

The row started when a Kaspersky update misidentified some files associated with Rising Tech antivirus products as being malicious.

This meant it was impossible to update Rising Tech products, it's alleged. Kaspersky fixed the problem, but Rising Tech claimed the outfit misidentified its files at least 22 times within a six month period.

Rising Tech announced in May that it planned to sue the Beijing office of Kaspersky for unfair competitive practice. However, it is unclear if that's happened or not.
