SO THE last of the old guard has left Phonepayplus (formerly known as ICSTIS) the phone-paid services watchdog.
George Kidd has resigned from his post as CEO having been with the organisation for eight years.
The press blurb doesn't say whether Mr Kidd is dropping the job in order to spend more time with his family or whether this will enable him to take a position with the mobile content provision industry.
Phonepayplus dismissed our previous inquiries about a declared (by George himself) possible conflict of interest saying it related to another regulatory body.
George Kidd doesn't actually seem to be leaving the board of Phonepayplus and has an important seat on a group looking at "an informal procedure for managing small breaches".
That's potentially dynamite given how many blatant breaches there are every month.
One of the most frequent repeat offenders is Mblox and its chairman, Andrew Bud, only recently left the board of Phoneplayplus.
Mr Kidd is quoted as saying, "I am immensely proud of the work PhonepayPlus has done to make sure both consumers and businesses receive a fair deal."
Given the TV quiz game scandals – which even included Blue Peter – it's hard to envisage what kind of unfair deal the public would have been subjected to without him. µ
