AN AQUARIUM accessory for the Ipod has been slammed by animal rights groups for torturing fish.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, the Ipond gadget ships with a fish on board. Although the fish does have the stare of many basement dwellers who want to 'think different' it is in fact a Siamese fighting fish which has been forced to live in 650 millilitres of water.
The RSPCA and other animal rights group say that a Siamese fighting fish needs 10 litres of water which is hardly going to enable the Ipond to be carried in one's pocket.
However the Ipond is proving popular down under with stores reporting brisk sales. It is sold through Pets Paradise and Pet Goods Direct chains. Users can play their Ipods through a speaker built into the bottom of the brick-shaped tank.
One animal rights group have said that the fish in a close proximity to an Ipod did not look like it had long to live. Even if it did live it was not really worth it, it was just a torture box.
An acoustics expert Jason Gedamke said music from the iPod would escape into the water meaning that the fish could suffer from a terminal exposure to James Blunt and Coldplay which Apple fan boys tend to have on repeat.
Apparently customers have asked if the fish was OK. The people in the shop have said that one has not complained so far.
Apple's 'no comment' press office have not commented on the product because it is an 'accessory' and not made by them. Jobs' Mob just collects money on the trademark, etc.

Should cram the inventor into a small perspex box and gradually remove the air whilst pumping 200Db into it.That would be fun to watch.

I am the kind of person who is always looking for the next big thing. But with that the mind just boggles to think somebody thought it was a good idea.
If this is true, and in the Sixties there were 'goldfish shoes' on sale briefly so I'm not to quick to say its a fake, then the Betta will not survive longer than a week.

Ammonia build up in the water will simply kill it slowly as it rots away its skin.

Then again Bettas can jump so it'll be out of there as soon as the owner tries to feed it.

In the UK this product would be illegal as pets have to be provided with basic care and the ability to perform basic functions.
This includes basic exercise.

I've got one of these and I just love it for the extra attention it brings me and my Apple bling. The fish doesn't move much, but it might be either it was already dead when I bought it, or perhaps it's not real. I don't care either way.
Apple only collects royalties/licence fees if the manufacturer signs up for their 'Made for iPod' scheme, which lets them use the logo and name in their product. Otherwise, Apple get's nothing.
Is it April 1st already?
