CHIP FIRM AMD is telling its resellers that the Sun Fire V20z computer grid rack system - which uses Opterons - is an ideal Grid computing system.

According to a note sent to the dealers, the system offers "excellent" price performance for CAD, for electronic design automation and other computer intensive apps.

It also claims that the servers have "compelling pricing, are widely scaleable, and extremely reliable".

It supplies a link to the Sun site via an AMD re-direct, here.

The same note is also pushing the Angstrom Titan 64 Quadrablade 850 server, which it says allows people to build blade enclosures like Lego blocks - mentioning one system that uses 208 Opterons in 52 blades that's available now.

That's also got an AMD re-direct, here.

AMD is also saying that Microsoft 4GT, which you can read about here. AMD says it's a simple first step migration path for Windows that allow existing 32-bit apps to increase virtual memory to 4GB. µ
