JAPANESE GIANT Mitsubishi said it will take over a Renasas fab in Kumamoto, Japan.

The firm said it wants to increase production capabilities for six inch wafers and eight inch wafers.

Renesas got out of the flash memory biz in December 2005, and because of this its Kumamoto factory has operated under capacity.

Now this is jolly handy for Mitsubishi because it has an existing fab slap next door to the Renesas fab.

No terms were announced but the transfer will happen in April. µ
