AMD promises channel chips on time

AMD SAYS it is putting the channel on a par with tier one fellow travellers such as - we imagine - Dell, by promising them all shipments of its new quad-core chips at the same time.

According to a VNUnet story here, Richard Baker, European channel marketing manager at AMD, said: “In the past we kept the big guys happy and introduced the product to the channel later. But we've emphasised the channel with this launch. This was one of the reasons behind the delay.”

Oh, was there a delay then Richard? We heard Barcelona was on schedule.

Baker said things that held up the launch included ensuring there were high enough volumes and qualifying the technology with the main motherboard manufacturers. Hmm. µ
