Doomsday Book now available online

Well, some of it anyway
Fri Aug 04 2006, 09:14
THE KEEPER of the National Archives' online services apparently claimed on UK radio this morning that those who decide to access the newly released Doomsday Book will find that the system doesn't crash.

The INQ's not surprised. Checking the National Archive's site this morning, there was no sign of any access to the Book.

Instead, punters have to go to a separate site - Domesdaybook.co.uk. Even then, when this INQ hack searched on his home town - Ashford, Middlesex, the site reported the message "Under construction - check back soon".

The book earned its name from the fact that the huge scope of the national survey evoked a sense of the Judgment Day, otherwise described as Doomsday in the Christian Bible, amongst its victims. µ
