Fax machine makes a comeback

Email without a computer, gosh

YOU CAN FLOG ANYTHING with the right marketing. An outfit called Presto is offering to flog an HP printer with a dial up modem which spits out emails.

Now if you think that sounds a bit like a fax machine it pretty much well is, but that is not stopping Presto as flogging the thing as the next best thing for people who don't want to buy a computer but still want the joys of receiving emails.

There are some late 20th century upgrades to a device which first saw service in the 1845. It uses a colour inkjet and can print out the emails in a pretty way.

Punters use the Presto to put in a phone call to a mail box where the emails are delivered. The email box can be configured so that you do not get any spam and mail only arrives from those on your while list. The downside is that, unlike a fax, you can't reply to anyone.

Presto let a bloke from Fox use his grandparents to test it and after a few minor problems they mastered the technology. The 'review' is here.

He doesn't mention the word 'fax' once, maybe the writer has never seen one.

The HP Printing Mailbox is $149.99. Presto Service is $9.99 per month or $99.99 per year. µ
