Nvidia steps on the tail of the Intel tiger

We're better than you lot

FABLESS chip firm Nvidia is claiming that 37 per cent of video grames won't work with Intel's integrated graphics and 27 per cent have problems.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Nvidia is taking Intel head on over its G35 chipset, and claims that deals it has with motherboard makers will give people better performance, particularly with operating systems like Microsoft Vista.

The move is undoubtedly a knee jerk reaction to more details Intel gave last week, including the ability to integrate graphics functions in the same package as the "brain of a computer".

Intel continues to rule the overall graphics market with an enormous chunk mostly derived from its integrated graphics business. Nvidia designs graphics chips and reference boards which are then made and sold by its add-in board customers.

High end graphics boards continue to be a rather small chunk of the market.

Nvidia probably feels squeezed by two giants - AMD and Intel - and doesn't particularly like it. ยต
