EMC targets Middle East

Increases investment
Mon Mar 10 2008, 09:22

THE MIDDLE Eastern telecom market is thriving and EMC wants in on it. So said EMC's Vice President Bill Teuber, at the company's fifth annual telecoms summit in Dubai on Thursday.

EMC, which already has regional headquarters in Dubai and offices in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Egypt, plan to increase investments in the Middle East and North Africa, thought to be one of the fastest-growing international telecom markets, whilst opening new offices in Qatar, Kuwait, Nigeria, and Pakistan.

The new offices would handle a significant amount of EMC's
operations, sales, delivery and customer support.

Noting why EMC was so keen to expand into the Middle East, Teuber said, " Some of these countries have relatively low revenues but high growth rates so we're looking to make sure we're a part of the infrastructure of many of these countries as they mature".

EMC grew by 19 per cent in 2007, and reported $13.2 billion in revenues. 45 per cent of those revenues were drawn from international markets. µ
