AMD prices drop?

Or maybe Spot the Dog is to blame

A REPORT ON A WEB SITE suggests that AMD may have quietly dropped the price of its processors again, although we think the changes could be the result of price pressures, particularly in the spot market.

According to AMD MB, the 1.4GHz 266MHz Athlon has dropped below $115.

Those retail price drops are confirmed by other prices for that part in different places.

At this place, the price seems to have dropped.

And even our old pal David Atherton's outfit, Dabs Direct, seems to show that part (198 available), selling for UKP115 - but then the chips have made a long journey across the Atlantic. µ

AMD, to the best of our knowledge and according to distributors and dealers we have talked to, has not made any official price cuts.

But then its pricing through the year has been odd and sometimes downright bizarre, with Athlons being cheaper to buy in North America than Asia, so allowing the US channel to sell on chips and make a small profit. µ
