OpenBSD provisional wing scores success

Put the pressure on

THE OPENBSD community's campaign to get hardware users to distribute its software is netting some success.

According to OpenBSD Association spokesman Theo de Raadt, hardware vendors have responded positively to 'activism' on the part of members of the OpenBSD community.

Apparently this did not involve anything like a sit in protest, or a few petrol bombs, more of just a quiet chat over tea and biscuits and a few emails.

According to de Raadt, hardware venders had either allowed redistribution of specific firmware or else begun a dialogue with OpenBSN developers. Even the mighty Conexant and Intel have been open to dialogue, he claimed.

Only Texas Instruments had not responded, and de Raadt said the activism would continue, we assume as long as the biscuit supply holds out.

He said he found it sad that the Linux crowd did not help OpenBSN. He said while Linux types talk about freedom, they could do more and are leaving the fight to the BSD types.

He thinks this is curious and is somewhat miffed that Linus Torvalds had not sent off an email or two to assist the cause.
