The new title is known under a working name Command & Conquer: The Tiberium Wars, but unofficial name might as well be C&C3, since the game is positioned at the time of third Tiberium War. Like every Tiberium War kind of title, the plot is set at the year 2047, and the usual suspects are here. You've guessed it right - Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and The Brotherhood of NOD.

There are quite a few similarities between the Lord of the Rings' Battle for Middle-Earth II and the new C&C, but the new engine inside the game just looks great. Hardware requirements for the game aren't even close from being set, but you can bet your house on a very fast and capable graphics system at the time of release.
C&C brings a lot of on-line tech inside the game: guilds and their tactics, integrated voice chat for strategy purposes and a lot of challenging levels, especially ones that are Player vs. Player. Players will have to use sea, air and ground equipment in order to gain tactical advantage over the area, while the true test will come in the multiplayer zone, when the guild tactics will kick in.
The shipping date is set for next year, probably in the E3 2007 timeframe. We would not be surprised if EA does not ship the game before traditionally dry summer time.
