IT TURNS out that many of the recent rumours about NNvidia's upcoming G80 chip were true. This includes many things such as 1.35GHz scalable clock for 128 shader units, and a 384-bit memory controller.

Nvidia still refuses to talk about the actual number of pipelines on the chip but we have a clue that we are talking about hell of a fast card. The samples should be ready for week 43, while the actually launch takes a place in week 45, probably on the 8th of November.

The names are true too. Nvidia didn't want to take any risks, it simply took Geforce 8800 GTX for its flagship product and re-intruduces the Giga Texture Sshader term, GTS for its second fastest product.

It will be the fastest card 'til Yule, for sure, but we will try to gather more actual data on the product as we really want to know how many pixels it can render each clock. µ
