Skype gives Canadians and Yanks free calls

And the rest of us?
Tue May 16 2006, 08:49
VOICE over IP outfit Skype is making calls from your PC to traditional landlines and mobile phones free if you live in Canada or the US.

The free calls will run for the rest of the year when previously, Skype users in both countries were required to pay for Skype calls from their PCs to traditional telephones.

Of course if customers decide to call anywhere in the rest of the world they will be charged and you still have to sign up for SkypeOut, which is the outfit's paid for service.

It is not clear if Skype will continue to make its service free after 2007 dawns on January 1. Nor is it clear why the outfit snubbed the rest of the world, particularly its extremely loyal core European customers, who got the outfit to where it is today.
