IBM improves magnetic tape encryption

Death to data theft
Wed Sep 13 2006, 15:53
BIG BLUE has released some new technology for its storage units, which it says can encrypt magnetic tape data on the fly so that it is inaccessible to those who manage to steal it.

The method involves some public encryption key methods employed by IBM's powerful zSeries mainframe and supports the Encryption Key Manager for the Java platform standard.
