Intel scales back Viiv

Modified use

CHIPZILLA has decided to scale back its glorious Viiv technology which was supposed to bring digital entertainment to everybody's living room.

Punters might have been looking around their living room over the weekend and wondered why the digital delivery had been slowed. In fact if you visited a trade show, Viiv seemed to have come down with a sore throat and could not attend either.
The Wall Street Journal, has noticed that Intel has not been promoting the technology and rang up Chipzilla HQ to find out why.

The official line is that Intel is going to use a modified version of Viiv on entertainment-oriented personal computers that use its dual-processor chips.

You will see Intel Core 2 with Viiv technology on board.

The latest spin is that Viiv will enable a "new class of home PCs equipped with digital entertainment and TV-like capabilities". Which is not exactly the promised Intel made to us when Viiv was first mooted.

However Intel can have the satisfaction that AMD had a go with similar projects and they tanked too.

Overdue Now: G43 & G45

Processors aside, the integrated graphics chipsets always promise more, and that is even yet overdue. Discreet add in boards always surpass integrated graphics. So much marketing's fudge applied to the consumer's fuzz. The buzz for tomorrow is that the forthcoming new nihilist chipset intended for extreme enthuisiast Nehalemites, can actually wash your bus!

Vive Viiv ReViiVal vis-a-vis Visa...

I can't wait to learn how much better P45 motherboards are compared to X48 enthuisiast's boards.
