Benchmark those shudders, er sorry shaders, folks

DAAMIT has updated its range of game programming tools, adding in DirectX 10 support to its popular suite. The revisions take GPU PerfStudio to 1.1, GUP ShaderAnalyzer to 1.3 and The Compressonator to 1.40.

"Compressonator" is used for taking raw texture art and making in-game textures suitable for modern GPUs. The update adds DX10 texture formats and compression methods. "ShaderAnalyzer" calculates performance bottlenecks and variations in shaders, and is updated to handle the longer DX10 shaders the specification calls for. Meanwhile, "PerfStudio" has updated its data visualisation as well as adding better support for render targets.

AMD has already managed to get some games developers behind the tools, with Bioware - developers of some of the best RPGs on the planet, natch - being the first to go hands on. Firaxis (Civilisation IV) and 2K Australia (Bioshock) are also on the ball.

If you're a software development type and you want to know what AMD thinks of your code, you can go grab the tools for yourself, here. ยต
