ISRAEL’S NATIONAL SECURITY could be under serious threat; from 18 year old soldiers posing with their military equipment on Facebook.
The Israeli Defence ministry on Thursday published new guidelines and rules to try to in some way stem, what they see, as significant leaks of classified information, flowing out through the social not-working (or fighting) site.
The new rules will apply not only to soldiers, but also to Defence Ministry employees. It is important to note at this point that military service in Israel is mandatory, meaning that most young people between the ages of 18 and 21, Facebook’s majority demographic, serve in the Israeli army, whether they particularly want to or not.
Probably sensibly realising that banning use of the site would be a rather futile exercise, the security forces have decided that soldiers can still use social networking sites, as long as they don’t mention the fact that they’re serving in the military, post photos of themselves in uniform, or give out any information that could give away what they do. Not-working indeed then. µ

I have to laugh at the advice some official sources on 'internet safety' give out here - there's a whole dualism between their advice and what people have been using the internet for all along.

I've actually had people say to me things like 'don't give out your details online to anyplace public'....now I'm not one to have a myspace or the like, but I can't help but notice the millions of everyday folks who do have their personal details all over publically accessible networking sites. And they don't seem to be getting stalked by psychos or having their identities stolen.

Someone should tell them, how families etc have all along used the internet to publically display themselves on.

There's a big difference between advertising your passwords and bank details for example, and being open about yourself on a webspace.

What I'm saying is - can't have people thinking that anyone deserves or is in some way encouraging bad attention to themselves, because they use the internet for networking or just happen to have a personal page up online.

Especially when the electoral register etc has all your private details, like your address, available to anyone that can access it (literally thousands of people you don't know, including spam-phonecall companies etc) and knows just one part of your address or name.

What's next? You can't put adverts up in shop windows anymore, with a phone and name on; cause oh then you're just asking for crank calls.....get f-ing real. If you're in authority it's your job to get rid of psychos, not to encourage bogeymen stories.
Why don't they ask themselves how the cameras entered to those military "entrance forbidden" places?
mmmmm....
Those unwilling to serve in the Israeli military are free, of course, to stand in front of a checkpoint into "Palestinian" areas and shout insults across the checkpoint. At risk to their life, of course.

Dimwitted Western liberals don't understand when you are virtually surrounded by people hell-bent on comitting genocide on you and your neighbors, it's a relative no-brainer to decide to serve in your country's military. Either that or be killed.

I wonder how quickly people who degrade the military would whinge for protection if their useless parasitical lives were really threatened and not some crack-infused fantasy of government taking away your so-called "rights" by "forcing" you to serve the societal defense. Rights don't exist if you aren't willing to defend them.
The story is just not true.

First the guidelines released is not for "18 years old solders" but for security officers , ministry of defense clerks etc.

Second it's really guidelines , not a ban on facebook of some kind. They just tell what you can post and what not and advice not to post personal pictures.
Nothing unreasonable for people involved with security.
This story is getting really big.

I think it's wonderful the terrorist nation of "Israel" are giving out free-intelligence to people who can target their horrendous, dispicable aggression against the INDIGENOUS population of Palestine.

The Zionist outposts named Ashkelon, (properly called Al-Majdal) inside Palestine had it's Arab residents expelled and forced out, the rocket attacks are in response to this war crime.

Rich Wargo, when will Zionists realise that theft, robbery, and murder are crimes? Palestine is never going away, you must realise that when the Zionist scumbag Israel Zangwill recommended in early 1900's to force out the residents, and when scumbag zionists carried out these attacks on no less than 413 Arab villages, that revenge will come. Palestinians have fought and defended their country before from invaders (kicked out crusaders after 90 years of their settlement) and will never, EVER stop until justice is done. The sooner the European, American Russian etc occupants of Palestine realise this, the better it will be for them.
