Nvidia has made half a billion semiconductors

A big number
Thu Oct 26 2006, 15:06
NVIDIA said that with the help of TSMC (Taiwanese Semiconductor Manufacturing Co) it has made 500 million semiconductors.

The number could possibly be even bigger as Nvidia made some GPUs at UMC and some from IBM, but this is the only one that it wants to make a noise about.

The number includes Geforce GPUs, Nforce chipsets and all together TSMC produced 2.6 million eight inch wafers. CEO Jen Hsen likes working with TSMC as he says its employees will "jump through hoops" for Nvidia.

In 1998 Nvidia started with 0.35 micron architecture and now is working hard to migrate to 65 nanometre, the things havecertainly shrink since 1998. TSMC will produce 65 nanometre chips at its 12-inch fabs.

Nvidia doesn't plan to stop as it is on a graphics market seek and destroy mission, and could not be happier that ATI skipped the R600 schedules and leaves it in the pole position. µ
