Creative and id Software make loud Doom noise

Future Doom 3 engine to feature Creative audio
Mon Jul 26 2004, 14:31
CREATIVE TECHNOLOGY and id Software have today announced an agreement, enabling Creative to develop EAX(R) Advanced HD 3D audio for future licences. Additionally, an agreement has been reached allowing for Creative's patented shadowing technique to be used in the Doom 3 engine.

Apparently, Creative will be looking to improve the audio technology in id Software's Doom 3 engine. In CEO of id's Todd Hollenshead's very own words, "we look forward to further enhancing players' audio experience by working with Creative to leverage their EAX Advanced HD technology in the Doom 3 engine."

Creative seem pretty excited about the agreement - Hock Leow of Creative reckons this is an exciting opportunity for the company, and is looking forward to implementing its EAX Advanced HD technology.

"We are also pleased with the agreement relating to Creative's patented shadowing technique," said Hock.

A new version of the Doom 3 engine, featuring Creative EAX ADVANCED HD technology, should be available to id licensees later this year.
