SCO executives hire bodyguards, fear for their lives

Linux users aren't dangerous ... are they?
Wed Nov 19 2003, 11:20
ACCORDING TO to a report in the Salt Lake Tribune, SCO executives have hired bodyguards after receiving threats by telephone and email. It seems that SCO's relentless legal attacks on the Linux world have caused some frustrated Open Source partisans to lose their cool.

"It's crazy", says CEO Darl McBride to the Tribune from a deep undercover hotel room somewhere in Las Vegas. A sentiment that undoubtedly many will agree with.

Open Source founder Bruce Perens, however, is sure the whole thing is a publicity stunt, designed to discredit the Open Source community. A curious stance, we feel, considering he has himself in the past complained about threats from an other Open Source luminary. While we're sure they've long since settled their differences without resort to firearms (keyboards at dawn?) it's an indication of how tempers flare when people feel their software of choice is threatened.

It's only bits and bytes, folks. µ
