Phenom + Crossfire spied

Ensconced in Stranghold, no less
Mon Jul 23 2007, 14:03
THOSE CRAZY SPY-PHOTO folks over at HardSpell appear to have snapped some photos of a quad-core AMD Phenom chip hard at work powering a pair of 2900 cards in CrossFire.

At the very least, they've pinched someone elses pictures, which doesn't make the pictures themselves less funky.

Visible in the closeups is the 4GB of system RAM, as well as an absolute tonne of cooling fans to keep the whole thing rocking. A little place-card suggests availability in the second half of 2007, which we suspect could end up being a little optimistic.

The system sure looks neato, and is shown displaying a tech demo for John Woo's Stranglehold, another AAA game that might not see 2007. The motherboard, allegedly, is RD790 - although we have no way whatsoever of verifying that, so take it as the gospel truth.

Something else we don't know is whether or not DAAMIT will roll out a revision to the 2900 XT in the second half of 2007. It seems likely that an XTX of some description will be pushed to co-incide with press review kits of Phenom, even if the card itself is nothing more than a repeat of the legendary Phantom Edition. µ
