Subject: Listening to iPODs can make you deaf

Ughh how could shuch a thing be aloud to happen in the EU? AFAIK all iPod's sold within the EU have a mandatory "Voulume Cap" that is at MAX only about 65~70% of the "True MAX" of any other non European iPod. Apple still has yet to actully brand the fact that all Eurpean iPod's are in fact caped!

So are you trying to say that a "Volume Caped iPod" is still to freaking LOUD FOR YOU!!

Christ you just about have to crank it to the Max just to hear the freaking thing in the "Tube" God forbid, what it would be like if your on an Aeroplane!

Surely those sorry-arsed French Basterds, who wrote the Law into existance and slammed it though Strausberg should find something better to do then worry about such issues. If the EU Parliment wanted to actually be useful (for a change), they'd pass a Law which would actually allow me to listen to my iPod the same uncapped way as everyone else on the Planet with an iPod can!

All I have to say is; VIVA LA 'GoPod'!!!

Subject: Socialist Europe

Hello guys. I just couldn't resist to mail you about your european rant. First of all, let's note those european dictators you write about are long gone and despised by the people of the countries they ruled. Let's not forget they oppossed socialism but defended socialist and statist economic measures. Franco institued socialized retirement system, didn't privatize public education, etc.

I live in Spain and the economy is ridiculously socialist: public TV channels, lots of public companies, up to a few years ago public phone company, lots of bureucrats, abusive social protection ...

Did you know about 10+ years ago you could work 6 months and receive unemployement compensation up to 2 years? Now it's maxed to 8 months, but you can still reject ALL JOB OFFERS you want. No wonder unemployement reached a 24%. Now the same people who did it are back to finnish what they started: PSOE (Partido SOCIALISTA obrero espaƱol). Do I have to translate? They are in charge of the country now.

Subject: 64 sexy bits

What a load of bollocks, you are right to take the piss.

Without device drivers who in their right mind will irrevocably go 64? Gullible impressionable weakminded easily lead, the voles army of sex slaves that's who.

These are a breed apart even among early adopters, who willingly pour their meagre pay packets into MS coffers for the thrill of belonging to the mighty church of rodentkind. The Rodent Youth are undoubtedly under mind control, the S-word an hypnotically implanted trigger to whip up psychotic crypto-sexual frenzy to achieve the new Jihad.

The minions of the Vole have new orders to prepare the way, to 'encourage' all the device manufacturers to write 64 bit drivers for Microsoft (and pay for the priviledge no doubt) so that when MS launch Longhorn it will suitably equipped to become a fast growing money tree for MS.

At which point XP will be excommunicated as a 32/64 bit halfbreed abomination. All new drivers will be Longhorn only because MS will end certification for XP. All complaining users will be instructed to get Longhorn.

But when they do this, and mark ye well my words of doom, they raise the price bar for upgrades and the hitech economy will stall. Jst as it did when they forced the changeover to XP, because their ruse will be ignored by the resilient hinterland of little people, home users who make 50% of the business and who know about value for money because they have to, along with a proportion of increasingly wary business clients who don't give a rat's arse what the Vole wants.

As the self appointed prophet of doom I can safely say it wont be pretty, och noo!

The way to prevent it is to force MS to provide XP certification for 5 years after Longhorn starts and to ensure Longhorn is backwards compatible with XP 32bit & 64bit drivers. It may slow them up a bit, but it is a lot better than the alternative, where they slow the rest of the hitech economy.

I have spoken the words of truth, my conscience is clear. May the law ha'mercy on these arsoles!

Subject: AMD market share

16.9% might only be a slight bump up from the previous quarter - but it is the highest number that AMD has seen in three years!

1Q 2002 is the most recent quarter where AMD had a higher share, at 18.2% - at the tail end of the heady Jerry days where volume was everything in 2000 - 2001.

Two quarters later was the absolute nadir, at 11.6%

All numbers taken from various online publications quoting Mercury Research (and largely ignoring the occasional 0.1% discrepancy between sources)

Subject: AMD reckons it has year lead over Intel on dual core

AMD likes to talk and talk about its technology superiority over Intel and they are just incredibly contented doing just that?

Its been quite a while but, where's the significant increased in maket shares? Its a mystery to me........ Come on AMD.... wake up!

Subject: Damn Commies?

You 'd better pay more attention on the expressions you are using when referring to communists. The 11th of May was selected for the celebration of the Mayday. You do now what happened to Chicago on the 1st of May 1886, don't you? Perhaps you don't want to remember...

Also, celebrating the Labor Day doesn't automatically transform you into a communist.

Please excuse any grammatical mistakes, I am Greek and English is not my native language.

Subject: Ingram /AMD

This is clearly a worry for anyboy. In Australia any attempt by smaller OEM's to deal with Ingram Australia leads only to misery and frustration.

IN SHORT ( AND I HOPE INGRAM AUSTRALIA READ THIS )INGRAM MICRO IN AUSTRALIA COULDN'T ORGANISE A ROOT IN A BROTHEL. THEIR WEB SITE SUCKS FOR SPEED & EASE OF USE, THE SEARCH FACILITY / STOCK AVAILABILITY BEING NEXT TO USELESS.

THEIR TELEPHONE SALES ARE UNCONTACTABLE, SOMETIMES WAITING HOURS ( if I let it go on speakerphone ).

I only hope that AMD rethink this move before its too late. There are better disties in Australia.

Subject: IBM claims EMC and HP eat dust

Paul,

Since Mike McGee is "out of the office", I am writing to you about possible mis-information in your web magazine's article IBM claims EMC and HP eat dust. Regarding the statement: "EMC and HP have not participated in the SPC-1 benchmark with the EMC CX700 or HP EVA5000 systems."

In fact the EVA5000 was one of the first storage arrays which were tested by the SPC-1 (results were posted on October 2, 2002) and published by the Storage Performance Council. See attached PDF. (A subsequent test was done the following year with mirrored-cache enabled.)

Since its announcement (by Compaq) in late 2000 the EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) has established a unique position in the Enterprise Storage marketplace, not only as a truly virtualized system, but also because of its exceptional performance. Next week, a new generation of EVAs will be announced at HP's Storage Conference in Las Vegas. There is a lot of excitement about these new arrays. You should check it out!

Subject: 64bits or Revolutionizing Typewriting Rate

Dear Mr. Rust,

You know, its kinda funny, but regardless of what word processing program, or operating system I use, my typing speed doesn't appear to improve beyond 20-30 words a minute.

However, if Microsoft says that my capacity to produce more letters under 64bits will increase, it must be so.

Then again, when I asked the surgeon, if I could play the piano after the operation ...

Subject: the letter of the day

"Hales is oblivious to the fact that there is growing sentiment in both the U.S. and Britain that foreign workers are not needed in times of high unemployment. Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO) has recently introduced H.R. 1325 to Congress to abolish the H-1B visa program. Does Hales think that Tancredo and the thousands of American workers that support him are rabid?"

I'm a Canuck living in Colorado. I can hearby certify that Tancredo (R-CO) has watched the movie "Ravenous" too many times. I have watched him speak on CSPAN: He cited an examples of a car accident where one party was Mexican. He then draws his conclusions..... He is clearly a bigot--and there is a lot of that here in Colorado.

I also submit as further proof:
http://www.teamamericapac.org/ta-ttpr-050331-minuteman.shtml
The "Minutemen" are the armed yahoos patroling the US border with Mexico. When the Mexicans start packing, all hell could break loose, which is what they probably want.

I'm often tempted to claim I'm starting the same on the Canadian side just to piss them right off. Hunt'n some illegal yank!!! heh heh..

Cheers,

Subject: Paul Hales is brainwashed" - me too

Hi,
I totally agree that immigrant workers do reduce average wages. But let spin it another way: immigrant workers do somewhat reduce the employer cost. Let see the example.

I'm working at the major investment company, Wall Street, New York. From 50% to 60% of all technical staff are immigrants, yet their average compensation is, by my estimate, around $150K per year. The rate at which people do live the firm is pretty high, because it's not that hard to get a $200K job in this town. It happens that important projects are delayed or get understaffed just because it is not easy to fill the position with good programmer for $150K. Apparently, even a very successful company can't afford to bump up compensations further up.

So I would ask the US patriots: maybe you should not be too greedy, we are not talking about dumping rates here, maybe you should start to worry about the cost that the corporations have to pay in order to make this economy running?

Thanks,
Andrew Shuvalov

Subject: Hales

I really enjoyed the sarcastic tone of the op-ed in theInquirer titled "King Billy Gates", because Gates really had it coming. If you recall, Bill Gates made the statement that if he was King of the USA he would get rid of the H-1B visa cap.

Dumping on King Billy was OK but the author, Paul Hales didn't stop there. He characterized ZaZona.com as rabid, and the "Job Destruction Newsletter" as a rant. I sent him a rather heated email by clicking the link "Flame Author". Hales didn't back down from his unjust comments so I was spurred to write a rebuttal, and the editor of theInquirer was nice enough to publish it. One thing you have to like about Britishers is that they like a good tussle!

Since some of your spam detectors might block this email if I included the off-color text, so I will just provide the links this time.

King Billy Gates wants more foreign engineers

Subject: Paul Hales article

I've just read the Paul Hales article on Bill Gates' 'If I were King' comments, and I felt compelled to write to you to say I completely agree with Robert Sanchez's letter to you. The article Paul wrote was essentially factual, up until the final paragraph or two where he makes an unfair and unprovicated attack on a newsletter hosted by www.ZaZona.com (What's worse is that Paul's comments weren't even funny). Anyways, I just wanted to express my support for Robert Sanchez, and to let Paul know it's okay to say 'I'm sorry'.

Paul Hales writes: Below is some of the correspondence I had with 'Rabid' Rob Sanchez. Rob's not getting an apology. Unless he wants it written on an Mini-ITX motherboard on the undertaking he sticks it up his bigoted wee arris

Of course I understand that Rob. Thing is I don't care any more about these white collar Brits or Yanks any more than I do about the starving Indians - or Gazans. That's why I found your site offensive. Your white-collar buddies are ok in work, swaggering about on a -what- $50,000 salary, dreaming of Porsches or silicone tits. Out of work who you gonna blame? The immigrants of course. Not the American way, not the system itself, the system they probably support, yet the one whose inevitable consequence will be their own economic slavery. Put me on your newsletter list and I'll keep an eye on the issues you're on about. Thanks,
Paul
