EVER WONDERED how much wonga gets doled out by cash machines on a daily basis? No? Daamit.

Still, we'll persevere.

The folks in charge of Link, the outfit that manages nearly all the cash machines in the UK dropped us a note to say that last Friday was the busiest day of the year so far, with some £513,000,000 withdrawn in the 24-hour period.

The average withdrawal was close to seventy quid, the penny-counters said.

No doubt the Bank Holiday on the following Monday and the fact that the kids are on half-term had something to do with it.

Shame the Bank Holiday was a wash-out. Even Europe's biggest one-day carnival here in sunny Luton was cancelled due to flooding.

All that cash must be burning holes in pockets by now.

Graham Mott, Head of Development at Link reckoned the wash-out meant folk would be sploshing their dosh on "in-door activities like shopping, or going to the cinema."

We assume that's online shoppng and Home Cinema, Graham.
