Newisys, IBM, AMD rumour mill racks up a notch

A POSTER ON THE Ace's Hardware forum is reporting that he went to an IBM Seminar in London last week and chatted to a Big Blue suit about whether the firm would use the AMD Opteron.

He relays that IBM has been evaluating Hammer based systems from Newisys for over nine months, which squares with intelligence we have.

And he also talks about performance of the chip, comparing it to IBM's Power 5 and the Intel Madison - as well as clock speeds.

IBM may ship two and four way servers before the end of 2003.

Now the poster, here, said that the Big Blue suit might know as little about anything else.

But if we'd bumped into a Big Blue suit at a London Hotel we'd have got his name and definitely written the story. That's what a rumour mill is for... µ
