Egham is the spam capital of Blighty

At last something to report in Egham
Monday, 29 September 2008, 10:42

A SMALL TOWN IN SURREY, Egham has been named the spam capital of Britain, according to a new survey.

Internet insecurity outfit, Message Labs said your average person in Egham wakes up each day to 189 junk emails a, a higher average per person than anywhere else in the country.

Alton and Petersfield are hit by an average of 167 and 116 spams a day respectively.

The next worst hit towns are Sutton Coldfield in the Midlands, Sutton in south London, and Macclesfield in Cheshire. London ranked 28th, Manchester 81st, Leeds 91st, Liverpool 99th, Newcastle 166th and Bristol 167th.

Quite what it is about Egham that attracts so much spam is anyone’s guess. Having worked for the local rag there once we assure readers that finding anything happening in the town is hard work.

Fareham on the south coast is the spammers' least favourite target, with business users receiving on average just two junk emails a week. However we doubt anyone from Egham would ever move there even if it was to escape spam. µ

Could it be because

Egham is the main EU hub for blackberry and handeles all EU email. Seems a tentative link but at the same time one of great validation. Many a time a blackberry email server gets blacklisted due to some ab-user or another spamming away, daily. Is this karma or is Egham the fallout that nobody wanted.

Egg n' ham

It's probably because Egham is so dull that they get so much spam. The residents spent all their days signing up for free pron, therefore get shed loads of emails asking if they want to buy dupious blue pills!

(I'm not speaking from experience, btw, I never look at it!)

(Ever)

(Honest!)

Hmmm....

I wonder if this is why my NTL performance was so poor when I used to live there?
