EU phone recycling scheme failing

Too many hoarders
Thu Jun 21 2007, 17:09
AN EU PLAN to recycle old mobile phones is failing because too many people are hanging onto them.

Under an EU directive recycling of batteries has to increase, however the European Battery Recycling Association (EBRA) says that punters don't want to give them up.

EBRA President Bertrand Schutz admitted that even he has kept his first mobile phone.

Schutz admits that if less people were like him the recycling target would be a doddle to reach.

One of the EU's biggest concerns is that as the batteries get old they become dangerous. Although it is not clear what state Schutz keeps his museum piece in.
