Open VMS for Itanium almost ready to roll

From the Alpha to the Itanium Alpha
Sunday, 21 December 2003, 15:14
COMPAQ, or HP as it is better known these days, has told its customers it has released OpenVMS Version 8.1 for "Integrity" servers - they use Intel's Itanium 2.

The software release is aimed at software vendors who wish to be early adopters and start porting their apps ready for production quality machines and software.

The software includes native compilers, while Oracle, CA, BEA, BMC and others are rushing to port their products to the OpenVMS "Integrity" platform.

It's quite an achievement for Compaq, shifting VMS from the Alpha platform to HP's so-called "cellular" architecture.

We wonder if VMS is running on SuperDOME yet?

We've every reason to suspect it is. ยต
