Microsoft does multi-GPU shuffle

Hotfix for the multi-eyeballed
Tuesday, 4 December 2007, 19:33

MICROSOFT HAS moved to improve multi-GPU arrangements in Vista with a hot-fix for frustrated users.

In some scenarios, games and benchmarks perform more poorly than expected on Vista PCs, the Vole confesseth.

Vista gets bamboozled by multiple display adapters in a Linked Display Adapter (LDA) configuration.

The cause, Microsoft says, is that part of a GPU link may incur a small scheduling latency on a new Direct Memory Access (DMA) packet. This is true if the DMA packet is submitted to the GPU that has previously run out of work and if another GPU in the linked configuration is very busy.

Starvation of one or more GPUs in the linked configuration can reduce the expected performance of an application. And that sounds nasty.

But not any more, thanks to the wonders of Voledom. ยต

Smooth

LIES, vista is flawless and it always ran SLI at 200% speed and perfectly for me, also I've never received spam email in my life although I have hotmail/yahoo/gmail and ISP email accounts.
And due to the flying pigs on my flying pigs farm being not allowed to fly because of H5N1 I spend a lot of time at the computer.

Microsoft sucks

You can't get the fix without entering your email address and system details so they can email you with the URL to the patch download om msdownload website.

Its crap how Microsoft are clearly using this fix as bait to get vista-user's email addresses and system details. They could have far more easily just posted the link to the patch file on the page (like they do with all other patches) instead of implementing this twisted mechanism for this one patch.
