LOOK MISTER, I’m as sick of writing Iphone stories as
you are of reading them but this one is material:
Carphone Warehouse says it could sell 10,000 of the
black beauties on first day of availability.
Reuters
reports Carphone (what a cute, olde worlde name that
is) as saying that it could get rid of that much stock
that quickly over its 800 UK stores, despite the fact
that Apple helpfully won’t let them move an item until
6pm Friday when all normal human beings are talking
rubbish in pubs. To accommodate demand, Carphone will
stay open until 10, when all normal human beings are
still talking rubbish in pubs. Apple will also let the
cashtills ring in its stores and online at that point.
In the US, Apple sold 270,000 Iphones in the first 30
hours of availability but then the land of the free
has more huddled masses yearning to breathe free than
we do. About five times as many, as the green and
pleasant isle squeezes in almost 61 million bodies
thanks to our relative svelte conditions. The US has
301 million and such is its vast land mass that it
allows citizens to cram in as many Krusty Kremes and
Taco Bells as they like.
To match Iphone mania, therefore, the UK would need to
sell about 54,000 units in the same time frame. My
best guess is that 15,000 would be nearer the mark as
we don’t have the appetite for technology or funding
of our friends across the water.
Anyhow, assuming Carphone fronts up with some numbers,
stick in your estimate for first day sales (from
Carphone only) in a response below and I’ll send a
gorgeous black Apple notebook to the nearest one to
the mark. OK, so it’s paper notebook from an Apple
press conference but it is unused, comes with an
embossed logo, and I might even throw in the matching
pen if I can find it. You can’t say fairer than that. µ
...12345 iPhoneys.
I wonder how many IPhones Carphone predicts will be returned within:
a) 1 Day
b) 1 Week
c) 1 Month

Answers on a postcard to Mr Jobs please.
they'll sell wild and while sales might not be exactly the same rate as US (one more reason is the unlocking/updating blues), the managers/board will buy enough of them - of course, as early christmas presents - to slightly exceed their bet... let's say 10,500 :-)
I'd say 12,500 iphones will be sold, 1500 of which will turn up on ebay unlocked for a few quid more....

btw the note book AMD sent me is about used up, their pen ran out aswell, so I could really use an apple one
im thinking more along the lines of 13,500. everyone has got want a apple notebook and pen :P lol
There bound to sell loads but i'm going a bit lower...

9, 750 :)
9450
Humble guess
I would say 11000 iphones. Bear in mind that Christmas is comming and despite all the negative publicity iphone is quite good gadget to have.
Check your facts on comparative porkiness. The UK is catching up fast with the US.
...the Ebay crowd, eager to resell ASAP. And since when did board members ever pay for anything :P

I'm pitching at 14,278 between 6pm and 10pm on 9 Nov in CPW UK stores....
11,111 is my completely uninformed guess (i really hope it isn't that many though!)
I think 9,500

Fingers crossed :-)
mystic Jaz predicts 8567
How's about 6,666 - a nice *round* number!

The other 3,334 will stay at the bar...
23,000
11236 iPhones
9966 iphones sold.

damn i want that paper notebook !
I reckon 7489 people with little sense will waste their money at the Carphone on the first day!
I don't think they will fly of the shelves as people expect i reckon about 9700
I'll go for 8888, it's a half-smart phone at best, the hype should be over by now (I wish).

Look out for that MacBook on ebay soon everyone, and happy bidding!
well i reckon they gonna sell no more than 12.012 of those :)
just a wild guess
16,700 suckers will lay down their money.
... 8,113 iFawns to her loyally fruity subjects.

Nick,
Carphone's rules of sale: the iPhone is non-returnable unless you fail the o2 credit check.
Customer buys the phone for £279 in-store, goes home, does their own credit check on the Apple website. Most (est. 95%) will pass the check, = no return of the iPhone. Out of the remaining 5%, some will need to pay £100, = no return.
The rest that fail, have to bring in proof of the fail to obtain a refund. So don't pay your credit card bills for a while, that'll get you your £279 back ;-).
Just as it did here in America.

17,111.

With all their marketing they're bound to sell 20,000 iphones.
I think it'll do better than people here seem to expect. I'd reckon more around 32,000.
15373
the sheeple im sorry did i say sheeple i mean't people will be flocking up in line for an iphone .I reckon they will sell in the region of 15,000 by the 10th of november
not many are informed about the problems with the new phones, so the iphone mania is just going to grow...

13250 phones is my guess
I'm going to guess that 8000 iPhones will be sold
They will nick it at 9798units.....
I'll put out there 16250
