HP and Dell lauded for greenness

Others green with envy
Fri Jul 21 2006, 16:59
HP AND DELL are to gain kudos from the green community today.

The US Environmental Protection Agency and the Green Electronics Council will laud the Romulus and Remus* of PCs as exemplars of environmentally-friendly computing.

Dell was recently signalled out for praise by Greenpeace in having gone beyond the basic requirements in weeding out hazardous substances in manufacturing its boxes.

HP was also praised despite having recently suffered a falling-out with the rainbow warriors.

In December, about 20 Greenpeace supporters leafleted visitors and staff, suggesting that HP stood for ‘Harmful products'.

Regular INQ readers will know that HP standards for Hewlett-Packard, after the founders of the Silicon Valley legend, although since the Compaq buy and related squabble with Walter Hewlett, the abbreviated naming convention seems to have taken precedence. ยต
