OLED display products shown off at CeBIT

They're small, but they'll get bigger

PRODUCTS USING organic light emitting diode (OLED) technology have made a tentative appearance at the CeBIT show.

But the first products are on a small scale.

The first, by Toshiba, is a 2.2-inch colour display supporting over 260,000 hues.

And Kodak has launched a digicam which uses a fill colour active matrix OLED display.

The technology is still in its early days, but manufacturers hope that eventually we'll see monitors that you can fold up.

As well as the 2.2-inch display, there is also an 8.5-inch prototype here on display at CeBIT.

The long term goal is to produce OLED screens that you can probably put in your pocket, a bit like a guy does with his newspaper when he's chosen his horses and is off to place his bets at the bookies.
