All your Rambus are belong to us - David Icke's Lizard Wizard
ANYONE ELSE feel like they are in an episode of Big Brother or the Truman Show? Last night even the government’s own terrorism watchdog condemned its plans to observe our every move.
The early plans to create a huge database holding information of every phone call, email and internet visit made in the UK were criticised as being invasive of the public’s private life.
Speaking to the Independent, Lord Carlile of Berriew QC, the independent reviewer of anti-terrorist laws, described the idea as "awful". He said, "Searches should be made on a case-by-case basis with appropriate reviewing measures so that they can't be done willy-nilly by government."
The database plan is part of the Data Communications Bill contrived under the pretext of combatting terrorism in the UK. Home Secretary Jacqui Smith is expected to announce the Government’s proposal today.
The Government says details stored would include phone numbers dialled and addresses to which emails are sent but not details of phone conversations or the contents of emails.
But concern is growing about the amount the Government wants to pry into our private lives. Furthermore, as Lord Carlile points out, the government's recent track record on handling public data is rather an "unhappy one."
Chris Huhne, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman, said ministers, " simply can't be trusted with confidential data of this sort, as it has shown again and again."
Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas said creating big databases "means you can never eliminate the risk that the data will fall into the wrong hands."
Shami Chakrabarti of the human rights group Liberty, told the paper the move, "is another example of the Government's obsession with gathering as much information on each of us as possible in case it might prove useful in the future.” µ

The future = 1984 British Government, and 3rd world US.

Sounds about right, the way things are going at the moment.
The saving of numbers dialled and addresses mailed and site URL's you goto is mandated by the EU you know, although it was pushed a lot when britain had chair of course.
They only made the period discussable, how many years.
Incidentally, since the search queries of google and such are part or the URL in the addressbar, as well as youtubes you link to, and search, it's also nice way to profile people too.
Isn't it nice how the government takes care of their property, the rabble, sometimes called the population, I just hope these middle ages never end don't you?

Information Commissioner, Richard Thomas said creating big databases "means you can never eliminate the risk that the data will fall into the wrong hands."

yeh like the UK government, police, traffic wardens, debt collection agencies and their dogs, blah blah blah O_o
it's useful already, now can witness the drama of invasion of our privacy.
How about trying this first on members of the government? Say, for a year or three. Oh, and their families (since politicians may have become used to this kind of scrutiny.)

The data to be safely archived on a bunch of USB sticks stored in the janitor's closet.

I have the answer: They can use DRM on it! It's worked perfectly to protect music and software, there's no way it won't work for every detail of your personal life. What could possibly go wrong?

And all I can say is: have you people gone completely mad? Will you let go all your liberties, one by one, just like that?
Drama Theory: take liberties little by little, until rights are gone. Then..

Then "authority" has all the right to abuse/murder anyone it wants, and anyone who wants to do so, just has to become & push Authority, and they can "get off" on that.

The Nazis knew this ( see "Anne Franke Remembered", a woman who was subject to the Nazi occupation said that they removed their rights, little by little, and the locals said "oh, it's Just One More Thing...", like the "frog in the pot" with the slowly increasing temp .. of course, after they'd removed enough rights, then they declared that Jews *weren't permitted to leave*, and as she said "Then, we knew it was too late." ).

Drama Theory ( Game Theory + the dimension of Emotions ) has been used by governments to make peace ( difficult negotiations between long entrenched enemies .. make little steps, little steps, find progress has happened, celebrate, renew process ), and is now being used by the US, Britain, Australia, and China to eradicate rights entirely.

( weirdly, 3 of 4 of those complain about the 4th )

Expect to hear "Your papers Are Not In Order" .. followed by gunshots, in all these countries, in 5 years.

Unless the citizens
a) stick together against this pre-murders re-arranging,
b) stick to all rights against all abuse,
c) organize round-the-clock & across-the-land, just as the rights-removers do,
d) pay the price for keeping rights ours.

( it's a choice of paying smaller price now, or bigger price later )
