Thank the gods

THE BOOM in the mobile ringtone business has finally run out of steam according to market watchers.

According to the Currant Bun, the industry which was immortalised by the success of the god awful Crazy Frog single has shrunk by 20 percent this year.

During the rule of the 'Jive Bunny' of the 21st century, the UK download ringtone market grew 500 per cent to £177million between 2000 and 2005. However music consultancy MusicAlly, says that within four years, turnover for the ringtone market will slide to just £78million.

The main reason for the slide is the controversy surrounding subscription charges for certain services. Although a code of conduct has now been drawn up, it was 'too little, too late to save the industry, a spokesMusicAlly said.

The other reason is that people have woken up to the fact that they sound pants and people laugh at you on trains when they hear your ring tone. µ
