Kontron pimps ITX with AMD

Small board, bigger power
Monday, 24 September 2007, 09:54
FANCY BUILDING a teeny tiny computing box based on mini-ITX board, but not crazy at the idea of using Via's rather underpowered processors? Well, Kontron is about to leap to your rescue, with a rather nifty mini-ITX AMD-based board.

Packing its technology onto a small motherboard, the board uses AMD's M690T chipset, which provides average performance and feature-set with an X1250 integrated graphics core. Connected up is the SB600 southbridge. The backplate supports DVI output as well as dual network ports, making this a perfect base for a home media hub.

The good stuff? Support for 1.6GHz Turion 64 X2, delivering dual-core computing power, even if on the slightly light side. However, there is support for up to 4GB of RAM.

There's one PCI card on the board, which means expansion isn't really an option, but then you wouldn't be buying a tiny board if you were looking to expand it. For the hardcore modders out there, this could well be the new project base of choice.

You can find more details on the board here. ยต
